synopsis:

It is September, and Dobbleman, a man in his late 20's, chooses the Crandall summer house on the idyllic coast of Maine for his home -- at least until he is found out. After making himself comfortable, he begins to absorb the family history and tone from the guest book, photo albums, social register, and other telltale items in the house in order to have an identity to pass off as his own, lest a groundskeeper or other watchful eye were to happen upon him. All is going smoothly for Dobbleman until a part of the family arrives for the Columbus Day long weekend. What ensues is a twisted charade that keeps everybody guessing themselves right into some permanent repercussions.

the characters:

Dobbleman: a man in his late 20's whose rush is trying to get over on people one way or another. He is charismatic and clearly intelligent, but that glint in his eye is too icy to be trusted.

Mel Andrews: a woman in her early 40's, beautiful in a sub-urban kind of way, but she is palpably stressed and unhappy. The wife of Wallace Crandall and mother of Whitney Crandall-Andrews, she is ripe for distraction from her uncertain family relationships.

Whitney Crandall-Andrews: a willowy teen of 17, Whit is the combination of naivete and experience that can only come about in the affluent suburbs. She is readily accepting of anything that has little or nothing to do with her parents.Whit is largely unaware of her beauty which is of the natural, unadorned variety, and at the outset, her talents are as of yet, untested.

Jaimee Ferrin: Whit's feisty friend, also 17, who is inherently distrustful and is forthright to the point of being aggressive. She is athletic, tough, and reactionary. Jaimee would love to be considered controversial.

Wallace Crandall: the indifferent patriarch and infamous defense attorney is well preserved in his early 50's. Physically healthy, and perhaps a little vain, this product of a very old blue-blood family is the very portrait of entitlement.
